The story of Avery Asks came to life very organically. It was a beautiful and sunny day, the kind of day that makes you realize just how lucky we are to live in Vancouver. Avery and her mama, Andrea, were spending the day together downtown. Avery, a natural observer, was in awe of the hustle and bustle of the busy streets, roads, cafés and shops. She looked at her mama and asked, ”where is everyone going?”

“Oh Avery, there are lots of different places people could be going,” her mama answered.

But on this particular day, that answer didn’t feel like it was enough. The two of them started making a list of all the places people could be going. Each and every time Avery and her mama went somewhere the list got longer and longer. Sometimes the places were silly and sometimes they were very unlikely, but the list continued to grow.

The more Andrea thought about the concept of answering life's simple questions with every possibility, the more convinced she was that it needed to be written as a story.

Avery’s nanny, Harriet, is an incredible artist and together they decided to put the concept down on paper. Harriet started sketching and painting, while Andrea started writing.

The result is a beautifully illustrated book that they hope will spark curiosity and inspire kids to think about the endless possibilities that come with a simple question.
